About us

The Ken Saro-Wiwa Foundation was founded in 2009 with its mission to foster environmental sustainability by supporting a climate in which the management of natural resources, technological advancements, investment decisions and socio-economic development all work in harmony, fulfilling the needs and aspirations of the people of the Niger Delta and its environs. The foundation’s programmes will emphasize empowering women through education, reproductive health rights, increased participation in peace building, and political representation at all levels of decision-making.

Other activities at the foundation include the hosting of dialogues on issues affecting the Niger delta in particular and Nigeria as a whole, with 15 events in the last 12 months such as open Mic evening for poets, writers, workshops on development, conversations and debates on the “sira” phenomenon in Ogoni, women trafficking in the Niger Delta and reproductive health rights, the foundation is on its way to successfully supporting actualizing an effective master plan and solution for the many environmental and social challenges facing oil producing regions and the African continent as a whole
